Update August 31, 2022

I continue to make good progress on the layout.  I drove the golden spike (actually soldered the last bit of rail to PC board ties) on the lumber line.  This completes the track on the upper layer of  my layout!

The track on the left with unstained ties is for the lumber camp (small engine house, repair facilities, crew dormitories, etc..).  The right track disappears into the tunnel  to fictitiously access other lumber camps.   The track exiting the picture to the lower right goes to the saw mill & logging camp.

Here is the logging camp with spar pole and donkey engine.

Here is an overview of the lumber line above the town of Cawood, Kentucky.  This town will have a small depot, company store, some small industries, 2 coal mines, and several company houses.  At the bottom of the picture you can see the control panel for West Cawood.  Here is a closeup.

The turnouts on the layout are controlled by DPDT toggle switches on the control panel.  These direct power to Tortoise switch machines.  Red-green LEDs illuminate to show the route selected.

Jim Lofland was a friend, a very nice man, and a prolific model railroader.  His Tall Timbers and Santa Fe was as beautiful to look at as it was to operate.  I was fortunate to have operated on his layout twice.  Unfortunately Jim passed away on May 8, 2022.  I have been assisting Art Houston and several others to take down parts of the layout and Art is selling Jim's locomotives, rolling stock, buildings, etc..  He is listing them on the Facebook HO Scale Buy Sell Trade group.  Check it out as Jim had a large collection of high quality trains and buildings.  The money from sales goes to Jim's widow Sally.

While this  is sad work we enjoy helping Sally.  Here are some pictures of Jim's layout in its heyday.

Until next time, happy model railroading.
